Many millions of NFL and college football fans have seen the video of Jason Kelce smashing the phone of a heckling fan before the Penn State versus Ohio State football game last Saturday. The video, posted below, shows fans surrounding the ever-popular Kelce, who was walking towards the stadium carrying a case of beer.
One fan, who was also filming the former Philadelphia Eagles center, yelled, “Hey Jason, how does it feel knowing your brother is a [homophobic slur] for dating Taylor Swift?” Kelce turned around quickly, snatched the phone out of the male fan’s hand, threw it on the ground, and then picked it back up and walked away.
Ok I hadn’t seen this video. This kid really survived death. If Jason Kelce wasn’t Jason Kelce, I’m pretty sure this kid would be in the hospital. Who raises these young men. pic.twitter.com/Fk5IgMOJ2f

The reference, of course, was to Jason’s brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who is dating 14-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift. Their highly publicized relationship has drawn millions of more fans to the NFL but has also led to criticism and unkind words directed at them on social media.
Apparently, this young man forgot that saying things like that in real life can have immediate consequences.
Jason Kelce Apologized for the Phone Smashing Incident at Penn State During Monday Night Football
The future Pro Football Hall of Fame center, of course, is part of ESPN’s crew that covers the weekly Monday Night Football game. During the broadcast, Kelce addressed the incident with an apologetic statement:
“In a heated moment, I decided to greet hate with hate. I fell short this week.
“I think everybody has seen on social media what happened this week. Listen, I’m not happy with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it. In a heated moment I chose to greet hate with hate and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing, I really don’t. I don’t think it leads to discourse and it’s the right way to go about things. In that moment I fell down to a level that I shouldn’t have.
“The bottom line is, I try to live my life by the golden rule, that’s what I’ve always been taught. I try to treat people with common decency and respect, and I’m going to keep doing that moving forward.”
After the incident, many wondered if he might face some kind of misdemeanor charges for destruction of property. According to Penn State police, though, there is one thing that is keeping that from happening.
No One Has Accused Jason Kelce of Breaking Their Phone
According to a report by TMZ (via Total Sports Pro), the person whose phone was smashed by the former Eagles star has not come forward to file a report or press charges with the police:
“A spokesperson for the university police department tells TMZ Sports that they do not know the identity of the guy, adding no one has come forward to make a complaint over their personal property (smashed phone) being damaged.”
As of now, tens of millions of people have seen this individual’s face and heard what he said. Perhaps that embarrassment is what is keeping him from coming forward.
