Two years after falling to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts walked out of Super Bowl LIX with the Lombardi Trophy in hand, following a dominant performance against Steve Spagnuolo’s vaunted defense.

Named the Super Bowl MVP after completing 17-of-22 passing attempts for 221 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and adding 72 rushing yards with a tush-push touchdown, Hurts executed the Eagles’ game plan to near perfection.
As Spagnuolo and the Chiefs completely sold out to stop Saquon Barkley in an effort to ensure the star running back and newly-minted NFL Offensive Player of The Year wouldn’t beat them, Hurts conducted a Super Bowl masterclass.
“Once Jalen got the lead,” a rival NFC Executive told me during the game on Sunday night. “Philly could really lean into the play-action, which is his game. No pressure. At all.”

While Barkley was a virtual nonfactor in the ground game, rushing for just 57 yards while averaging 2.7 yards per carry and catching six passes for 40 yards, Hurts was equally efficient in the short and intermediate game as he was airing it out when the opportunities presented itself.
Hurts and the Eagles’ offense posted completions of 46, 27, 22, and 20 yards as part of a big-play Super Bowl barrage, with the star quarterback taking advantage of the space created over the top by the Chiefs’ efforts to neutralize Barkley.
At age 26, Hurts’ best football may still be well ahead of him, Sunday night was a signature performance as the Eagles called a brilliant offensive game plan playing right into the quarterback’s strengths and exploiting what Kansas City gave them.
