Drew Brees, former NFL player, recently discussed as to if Patrick Mahomes is certainly the GOAT in the NFL or whether it was still Tom Brady. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Drew Brees commented on Mahomes’ potential GOAT status and went on to say that it is simply a matter of longevity.
In terms of longevity, Brady easily wins the debate since he played for a total of 23 seasons in the NFL and won a total of seven Super Bowls. Meanwhile, Mahomes has been playing since 2017 and has appeared in five Super Bowls, while winning two.

“It’s early. It’s early from the perspective that, even though he’s done stuff that’s unprecedented, there’s a longevity component that goes with that, right? Like, what Tom Brady did was unprecedented. He played 23 seasons, had 10 Super Bowl appearances, and won seven. Look, Patrick Mahomes will go down as one of the greatest of all time, but there’s a longevity component that needs to go with all those accomplishments as well.” Drew Brees said on Sports Illustrated.
Drew Brees himself played for a total of 20 seasons in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers and the New Orleans Saints. Drew Brees was the 32nd pick in the second round of the 2001 NFL draft and was picked by the Chargers where he played from 2001 to 2005. Drew Brees then moved to the Saints where he played for the rest of his career. Apart from being a player, Drew Brees also coached the Purdue Boilermakers college football team for a season.

Drew Brees Reacts To Saints Hiring Kellen Moore
On another note, Drew Brees seems to be happy with the New Orleans Saints hiring Kellen Moore as their new head coach. Moore was previously the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles who recently became Super Bowl champions after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. This will be the first time that Moore is given the opportunity as head coach for any NFL team.

Drew Brees remarked that it would be great for the Saints to hire Kellen Moore as their head coach since he has an “incredible offensive mind”. Furthermore, Drew Brees highlighted Moore’s recent success with the Eagles. In the 2024 NFL season, the New Orleans Saints finished last in the NFC South table with five wins and 12 defeats. In their very last game of the season, the Saints played against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and were defeated 27-19.
