The Jacksonville Jaguars are entering the 2024 NFL season hoping to finally make the leap into being a serious contender in the AFC. Since Trevor Lawrence arrived, the team has failed to live up to the hype. Maybe this is the year that they’re finally able to put everything together.
A lot of their success or lack thereof will have to do with the play of Lawrence. He has not played like the generational superstar that he was made out to be when eh was drafted No. 1 overall. However, that talent and ability is still inside him waiting to break out.
During the NFL offseason, the Jaguars did end up losing wide receiver Calvin Ridley, which was a big blow. But, they were able to sign Gabriel Davis away from the Buffalo Bills. In addition to Davis, they made quite a few moves in free agency, adding players like Mitch Morse, Darnell Savage Jr., Ronald Darby, Devin Duvernay, and Arik Armstead.
While they have made quite a few moves this offseason, they may not be completely done. If the right opportunity presents itself, the Jacksonville Jaguars would jump on a chance to improve.
Jacksonville Jaguars Trade For Star Cornerback In New Blockbuster Proposal
With the regular season continually drawing closer, Bleacher Report looked at some trades that could still happen. In one particular proposal, they had the Jacksonville Jaguars acquiring star cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints.
Here is how the proposed trade between the two teams would look:
New Orleans Saints Receive: 2025 Round 3 Pick, 2026 Round 5 Pick
Jacksonville Jaguars Receive: CB Marshon Lattimore
On the outside look in at the deal, it would make sense for both parties involved. Lattimore has been rumored to be available and it doesn’t sound like the Saints want to pay up to keep him long-term.
For the Jacksonville Jaguars, trading for Lattimore would give them the elusive lockdown cornerback that their defense has been needing. He has been one of the best at his position for years now. Being able to acquire him would significantly boost their chances to contend in 2024.
As for the Saints, they would be moving on from a player that doesn’t seem to fit their long-term plans. Being able to acquire a third and sixth-round pick would be valuable draft capital. They could use those assets in another trade or they could add young talent on team-friendly contracts with them.
During the 2023 season with the Saints, Lattimore ended up recording 48 total tackles to go along with an interception and eight defended passes. Those numbers came in just 10 regular season games.
All of that being said, this is a very intriguing idea for the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s just a hypothetical idea, but it’s one that would make sense.
