The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off a disappointing 9-8 season. Because they missed the playoffs, it has forced Jacksonville to take a hard look at the state of the organization. It resulted in head coach Doug Pederson firing several members of the coaching staff. Now, the Jaguars have found a notable defensive coordinator to start a new regime.
Jacksonville Jaguars Hiring Ryan Nielsen
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jacksonville Jaguars are set to hire defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen. He was the defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons this past season. On top of this, Nielsen has 19 years of coaching experience at the college and pro level.
Jacksonville Jaguars Moving Forward
The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to bounce back in 2024. After making it to the divisional round in the 2022-23 season, they missed the playoffs this year. Jacksonville fired former defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell along with most of his staff. Now, Nielsen is likely going to get an opportunity to bring in multiple people for his own staff with the Jaguars.
Pass defense is something the Jaguars have to address this offseason. It was arguably the biggest weakness of the team. Jacksonville ranked 26th in passing yards allowed per game (239.8). Now, they hope Nielsen will help with this. Atlanta ranked eighth in passing yards allowed per game (202.9) this season.
