The Coach Speaks
Coach Kalani Sitake said this at media last week when Isaiah’s name wasn’t on the roster “Isaiah Herron will retire from football, and he will finish his degree at BYU. … We’ll take care of him and help him finish his degree,” I am proud of him that he will be able to finish his academics.”
Isaiah played in 10 games last season and started in the Utah and Arizona St games. In the Utah game, he had forced fumble recovery to help seal the win over the Utes ending a 9-game losing streak against their in-state rival. In 2021, he had 13 tackles and one fumble recovery. His 2021 season came to an end at Utah State when he came out and said he an undisclosed injury. During his four years at BYU he played in 34 games recording 48 tackles and 9 pass break-ups. Isaiah adding his name to the list along with two others Keenan Ellis and Shamon Willis who also have medically retired from football.
The defensive backs with these three retiring lose some great players that could and have had a big impact on how the defense plays. With them gone the DBs will have to stay healthy and some younger players are going to have to step up and play ball to help the cougars win this season. The talent from last season returns healthy and ready to play the last season of independence.
