Another update comes in from the Anthony Richardson’s brutal injury saga just months after being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts with the 4th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
We often hear the well quoted line about the imitation of life from art and vice versa, but a less famous, but quite possibly just as accurate line concerns the imitation of team and quarterback.
Much of the time, the fortunes of one are intrinsically linked to another; the Chiefs’ success is innately linked to quarterback, Patrick Mahomes; the New England Patriots would not have 12 Super Bowl rings were it not for the selection of Tom Brady – recently enshrined to the Pats’ Hall of Fame – with the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft.
Existential Mirroring For The Indianapolis Colts And Their 2nd Year Quarterback

Yet, in certain extenuating circumstances, the nature of one seems to oddly mirror the trajectory of the other. The 2023 Indianapolis Colts are a perfect example of this.
In 2023, the seasons of budding franchise quarterback, Richardson, and the Colts as a whole can easily be summed up in 3 words. “Optimistic but frustrating”.
The former Florida QB was putting up some impressive performances to start the season, going 2-2 and displaying his terrifying dual-threat ability and rocket-arm that made him such a prodigious, if perhaps a tad raw, talent coming into the draft.
Richardson has been not seen the field since spraining his AC joint in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans, with some in the football world casting doubt over whether he will truly be ready for Week 1.
The same can be said for Indianapolis: despite rock-bottom expectations for the Midwest franchise, sporting a roster void of more than a couple of blue chip players with major holes at guard and in the secondary, the Colts managed to find their way to a Week 17 “early playoff” decider against the Houston Texans, where just a dropped pass stood between them and a first AFC South title in a decade.
However, the frustration for both Indy and AR15 may soon be laid to rest, as Colts’ general manager, Chris Ballard, has a big update concerning his new franchise QB, per Adam Schefter and ESPN

Anthony Richardson Set To Be Ready For Training Camp In Mid-July
Although Indianapolis Colts fans will likely not be thrilled to hear about Anthony Richardson’s early-June soreness, the fact that he is on-track and ready to go for the start of training camp will undoubtedly be music to their ears.
As many have touted over the past 12 months and more, Richardson has sky-high potential in the league, and with offensive guru head coach, Shane Steichen, and continued investment at wide receiver, running back and more the Colts, quite rightly, believe they are in an excellent position to help their QB reach that tall ceiling.
With Joe Flacco, who performed more than admirably in lieu of the injured Deshaun Watson for the Cleveland Browns last season, the Colts have reasonably strong short-term insurance in case of a setback in Richardson’s rehabilitation. However, it is clear that, for the time being, Indianapolis are feeling confident in the health and future of their quarterback and team.
