The New England Patriots have had quite the quarterback shuffle since the spring. That continued Wednesday morning when they signed a former Notre Dame quarterback to the practice squad.
The New England Patriots are set at QB1 with Mac Jones. However, the team brought in Matt Corral to compete with Bailey Zappe for QB2 before Week 1. The Patriots had to place Corral on the reserve/left squad list as he deals with personal issues in the early season.
The Patriots, who were unsure if Jones could cut the starting job this offseason, had Malik Cunningham and Trace McSorley competing for a roster spot in training camp. They were both cut, but Cunningham was retained on the practice squad.
But he could be on the chopping block.
The New England Patriots Sign Ian Book
According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Patriots are signing former New Orleans Saints 2021 fourth-round pick Ian Book to the practice squad.

Book is a former college standout for Notre Dame, leading the team to the College Football Playoff twice. However, his performances in the playoffs against defenses loaded with future NFL talent were far from spectacular. Book and the Notre Dame offense managed to score a total of 17 points combined in their semifinal contests against Alabama and Clemson.
Book played in one game during his rookie season with the Saints. He went 12/20 with two interceptions. He was waived at the end of training camp in 2022 and spent the season as Jalen Hurts backup with the NFC Championship-winning Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles waived the Book at the end of training camp this year. We’ll see if Book can make a leap in the Patriots offense. He will play behind Jones, who was the winning quarterback for Alabama over Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl Book played in.
