How Mahomes’ Performance Will Plummet if Travis Kelce Does Not Play
With tight end, Travis Kelce’s status for the first game of the season tonight up in the air, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense will need to change their game plan quickly if Kelce is not able to go tonight. It is obvious that Kelce is Mahomes’ favorite target to go to on the field, so Patrick will have to pick another receiver to go to, which may prove difficult, since the Chiefs don’t exactly have a star-studded receiving room.
Patrick Mahomes’ Options
Mahomes’ options would be receivers Skyy Moore, Justyn Ross, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Kadarius Toney. Yeah, not the best corp of guys to throw to. One option that can work for Mahomes will involve running back Isiah Pacheco by throwing the check down, screenplays, or using him as a slot guy. One way or the other, Mahomes will have to prepare for Kelce’s absence, as his stats usually drop when the star tight end is not in the game.
Travis Kelce’s Impact on Mahomes
With his quarterback rating rapidly declining by 14 points when Kelce is not available, Mahomes has not had the best games statistically when Travis does not play. In Mahomes’ first-ever game without Kelce, he had a passer rating of 76.4 with 284 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. It is very obvious that this Chiefs offense needs Travis Kelce to dominate the way they usually do, so stay tuned in to see what his status is come tonight.
