Entering an important Week 14 clash, the Houston Texans are thin at the safety position. Currently, the team has three safeties on the injured reserve. That left DeAndre Houston-Carson, Jalen Pitre, and Jimmie Ward as the only healthy safeties available. The Texans signed nine-year safety Adrian Amos to the roster on Wednesday afternoon for those reasons.
Amos played in 11 games with the New York Jets this season, including three starts. He gets to make them pay for releasing him immediately, as that’s who Houston faces on Sunday. Amos has 23 tackles and one pass defended in 2023, his first year outside of the NFC.
Drafted in 2015 out of Penn State, Amos’ first four professional seasons came with the Chicago Bears. After that, he remained in the NFC North for another four campaigns, only suiting up for the Green Bay Packers instead. Amos heads to Texas with 10 career interceptions, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and six sacks. He finished with 102 tackles in 2022.
The Houston Texans are Gunning for the Playoffs
Adrian Amos is now along for Houston’s ride toward postseason football. Entering Week 14, the Texans are outside of the AFC playoff picture because of a lost tiebreaker with the Colts. However, a wild-card spot isn’t their only avenue, as Houston sits one game behind the Jacksonville Jaguars for first in the AFC South.
When it comes to the Colts tiebreaker, Houston can even up that head-to-head record in their season finale. Between the Colts in Week 18 and the Jets game this weekend, Houston has the Titans twice and a meeting with the Browns sandwiched in between them. Everything is set up for a return to the playoffs, with Adrian Amos now in tow to help out.
