It’s been an incredible year for both the Houston Texans and CJ Stroud. They defied expectations with a deep playoff run that saw them bow out to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round.
As the rookie QB continues to make noise on and off the field, his efforts are continuously being recognized. This time, both the NFL and his local community decided to honor his fantastic rookie season.
Houston Texans QB wins multiple plaudits
It was clear to many that the Houston Texans rookie was the man of the hour at the recently concluded Houston Sports Awards. Stroud was recognized as the most impactful athlete to the city who provided joy to the city’s avid sports fans.
Click2Houston.com’s Aaron Wilson provided more information about the event:
He was named the Athlete of the Year and Newcomer of the Year at the annual Houston Sports Awards ceremony Tuesday night.
The other finalists for Athlete of the Year were the Houston Astros’ Kyle Tucker, the Houston Dynamo’s Héctor Herrera, the Houston Rockets’ Jalen Green and Jane Campbell of the Houston Dash.
Stroud was also part of the Moment of the Year when the Texans drafted Stroud second overall out of Ohio State and defensive end Will Anderson Jr. third overall out of Alabama. Stroud is a leading candidate to be named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Anderson is a candidate for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Stroud had a fantastic debut year with the Texans. The Ohio State product threw for 4108 yards and 23 TDs. He was also careful with the football, only throwing five picks through 15 starts.
CJ Stroud ‘honored’ to be named Offensive Rooke of the Year finalist
The local sporting community wasn’t the only organization thrilled with his performance. The NFL included his name among the list of finalists for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
According to FOX News’ Ryan Gaydon, the young gunslinger was happy to be included in such a list:
“It’s amazing. It was a goal of mine coming into the year, and I’ve been blessed enough to be able to get the recognition for it and hopefully win it,” he told Fox News Digital. “But I know there’s a lot of great players nominated, and they are just as deserved as me. So, I’m just really honored to be a part of that.”
Other players included in the shortlist are Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta, Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs, Los Angeles Rams wideout Puka Nacua, and Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson.
