If you survey 100 NFL fans about which team shows the most promise for growth after 2023, a good chunk of them would probably mention the Houston Texans. They have emerged as one of the most exciting teams in the NFL thanks to the play and leadership CJ Stroud brought under center.
The 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year has done incredible work for the Texans as he pushed them to a great postseason run in his rookie campaign. His 4108 passing yards, 23 passing touchdowns, and five interceptions on 64% pass completion prove that he can be the pillar for the Texans’ future Super Bowl runs.
However, Stroud’s outstanding QB play isn’t likely the only thing that’s giving the Houston Texans the extra boost they needed to make the playoffs. The way the team has been run over the past season may have also played a factor when it comes to the quality of the games they’ve put on the field as well.
Houston Texans praised as one of the best NFL franchises to play for
The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) released the 2024 edition of their report cards for the 32 teams in the league. They collated data from members across the league to have a clear idea on how these specific franchises are being run.
The Texans got high praise from the organization, being listed as the seventh-best organization in the NFL to play for:
Houston Texans players responded positively across all categories, and Houston remains a high-quality organization to work for as a player. Their highest grades come in their food services, Head Coach and dietician. In fact, the Texans are the only team that had every player feel they received an individualized plan from their dietician. The club has good facilities across the board and their letter grades are overwhelmingly positive. One area that players believe can be improved is adding a steam room and/or sauna – something offered by nearly every other team in the NFL.
The categories where they scored highest were in their head coach DeMeco Ryans, food quality, and the effectiveness of their dietician. The three areas above got A-‘s from the players interviewed.
While the Houston Texans are ranked among the top teams in the NFL regarding player welfare, there are certain areas for improvement. Team CEO Cal McNair is ranked 16th overall when it comes to his willingness to invest in the team. While they made an effort to make team travel as comfortable as possible, it got the lowest grade of B-.
This high grade could be used by the Texans to attract talented players to play with CJ Stroud and build a strong contender in the AFC South. Fans hope that the team would be able to keep their grades up to attract the best talents possible.
