On Tuesday, the New York Giants announced its official depth chart before Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season against the Washington Commanders. Well, Russell Wilson is the starting quarterback, but rookie Jaxson Dart has been named the backup quarterback for the Giants over Jameis Winston.

With this being the case, Dart will be appearing in game-action potentially sooner rather than later. He impressed the coaching staff and the front office during the preseason. Wilson, Dart, and Winston are an interesting quarterback room for New York and it is a major upgrade compared to last season’s quarterback room.
NFL Insider Believes That New York Giants Rookie Quarterback Jaxson Dart Could Play as Soon as Week 1

Dan Schneier is a senior fantasy editor for CBS Sports. He also has a Big Blue Banter Giants pod. Schneier said about Dart potentially seeing the field in Week 1 for New York against Washington,
“At this point, I’d be very surprised if Brian Daboll and the Giants do NOT have packages designed for Jaxson Dart. Why wouldn’t he? If DCs spend all week planning for a QB nothing like Dart in Russ, it can catch them off guard when they swap in Dart, go no huddle/tempo, spread/empty, RPO, quick game, etc vs the under center offense with Russ.”
This is very interesting that he would think this about Dart. However, it is probably better for Wilson to play the entire game rather than having Dart in for certain packages, but this could be wishful thinking on his part. The Giants probably don’t have any special packages for him, but no one knows that for sure if it will actually happen or not.

I predict Daboll will put Dart in for 1-2 series a game, as early as week one.
This is smart on several levels.
1) It throws a change-up at the defense. Dart would probably be running a spread offense with more RPO plays.
2) It wets Dart’s feet without putting too much…— greg cantwell (@gregmcantwell) September 2, 2025
I’d be shocked if they have something like this. The only time you’d ever see a package for a specific QB would be a guy like Milroe where his legs are a massive weapon. Can’t imagine the Giants messing around to get Dart in.

I don’t think your Wilson all year prediction is gonna pan out. I think Dart starts sooner that we initially thought.

You’d think they’re itching to get him into action and see how he looks in a regular season, live game. Will be interesting to see if there are chances for that to happen; prefer it to be up 3 TDs in the 4th as opposed to down 3 TDs in the 4th.

Or, alternatvely, what if he listed Dart as QB2 as a decoy to get the Redskins to devote gameplanning resources on him?

Well, there are mixed reactions from Giants fans about Dart potentially seeing the field in Week 1 against the Commanders. The only way he will see the field for Week 1 for New York against Washington will be if Wilson gets injured and hopefully that scenario does not occur.
