“I’m Very Hungry”: Dallas Cowboys Key Pass Rusher Facing Contract Year

The Dallas Cowboys are still trying to salvage their 2025 season, contend in the NFC East, and reach the playoffs despite trading Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. The shorthanded pass rush must count on Dante Fowler Jr. and three young players to fill the void. Highlighting one young EDGE rusher who must step up is a former second-round pick who missed last season.

With Micah Parsons gone, the defense must count on Sam Williams to step up as he enters a contract year. The second-round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft missed the entire 2024 season after suffering a torn ACL in training camp. Now healthy, Williams aims to break out and is listed as one of the starting EDGE rushers on the Cowboys’ first unofficial depth chart of the regular season.

During Tuesday’s press conference, Sam Williams shared his thoughts on his first season as the starter and entering a contract year, as reported by Jon Machota of The Athletic. He said he is hungry to return to the football field but is patient since he missed all of 2024. Williams also emphasized the importance of staying composed and not getting too excited, since that has led to penalties.

“I’m very hungry, but at the same time, I’m patient. I just got to keep trusting the process, be where my feet at. I don’t want to get too excited because that’s when Sam starts making penalties. I just want to be great. I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity than I have now. I just want to go out there and showcase all the hard work that I’ve put in,” Williams said.

“It’s me vs. me this year. I don’t look at anybody else. I just look at the man in front of me and I got to beat him. That’s it.”

Brian Schottenheimer has confidence in Sam Williams

“That guy is hungry,” Schottenheimer said, via Patrik Walker of the team’s website.

“I told him, ‘You’re gonna have an incredible year. Keep that intensity, but do it in pads.”
