The Green Bay Packers play the New York Giants in their Week 14 matchup on Monday Night Football. The Packers offense is not expected to have one of their best players in today’s matchup. Star running back Aaron Jones is expected to be out for the third straight week.
The Green Bay Packers star running back hasn’t played since Week 11
Aaron Jones was carted off the field with a knee injury in Week 11. He suffered an MCL sprain and missed Weeks 12 and 13.
Jones has been limited to seven games this season
Jones has dealt with multiple injuries. He suffered a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter of Week 1 and missed Weeks 2 and 3. He played in Week 4 but missed Week 5 because he aggravated his hamstring injury in practice.
Jones returned to action and played in Weeks 7-11. Jones has 245 rushing yards on 66 carries and two touchdowns. He also has 19 receptions for 169 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Who filled in for the injured Jones?
AJ Dillon has taken over as the starting running back with Jones out of the lineup. Dillon has had an up-and-down fourth season in Green Bay. He has struggled with his footwork and has been notorious for falling on his feet, especially in short yardage downs.
Dillon has done a better job with his footwork and has been reliable as of late. He had 255 rushing yards on 64 carries in their last five games and has a total of 521 rushing yards on 149 carries and one touchdown.
Dillon also has ten receptions on 12 targets for 98 receiving yards in those five games and has a total of 20 receptions on 25 targets for 198 yards.
Dillon is questionable with a groin injury but will likely play.
How does the New York Giants rank in run defense this season?
The New York Giants have one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. They allow the ninth most rushing yards, the third most rushing touchdowns, the second most yards per carry, and the seventh most rushing first downs.
New York’s star nose tackle, Dexter Lawrence II, is dealing with a hamstring injury but is expected to play today.
Green Bay should be able to run the ball down New York’s throats.
What now?
Hopefully, this is the last game that Aaron Jones will miss this season. He is arguably their best offensive player, and they are much better with him in the lineup.
Green Bay is ranked third in the NFC North with a 6-6 record and is 7th in the NFC Playoff Picture.
They have an easy remaining schedule. They play at home against Tampa Bay in Week 15, on the road against Carolina in Week 16, on the road against Minnesota in Week 17, and at home against Chicago in their season finale.
