Rashan Gary will be a member of the Green Bay Packers moving forward. As the team begins a new era under Jordan Love and a lot of young pieces, Gary will be one of the key veterans on the team. He agreed to a massive extension that was announced early this morning.
Green Bay Packers Rashan Gary Agrees To Massive Extension
The four-year, $96 million extension brings his contract total to $107 million. It has just over $34 million guaranteed. This puts him only below Nick Bosa and TJ Watt in terms of annual salary and it makes him the highest-paid defensive player in Packers history. The 25-year-old former first-round pick has worked himself back from an ACL injury and he has looked like his dominant self. He’s collected 4.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, and eight QB hits in seven games this season highlighted by a three-sack game against the Saints.
Great News Amidst A Bad Season
It has been a rough season for Packers fans. This is a shred of good news. It would have been surprising if the team let Gary hit free agency but the fact that a deal had not been announced made fans slightly uneasy. Fans can now look forward to having one of the best up-and-coming edge rushers on their team. The good news for the Packers is that it locks him up for four years and will likely be a bargain contract if he can continue this type of production.
The Green Bay Packers took a lot of heat for taking Rashan Gary in the draft. Between the coaching and Gary’s work ethic, they have silenced the critics.
