The Green Bay Packers got back to winning ways on Sunday via an impressive come-from-behind victory against the New Orleans Saints. It looked like they were headed for back-to-back losses after going down 17-0 at halftime, but the Packers put in an eye-opening effort after the break to make sure that they were going to come out Week 3 with a 2-1 record.
Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur Sounds Off on Win
It goes without saying that this was a game of two halves. Even head coach Matt LaFleur was at a bit of a loss for words after going through a whole range of emotions throughout the contest:
“I’ve never been a part of something like that before,” LaFleur said, via Mike Spofford of the team website. “where it looked so bleak for … so long, yeah”
LaFleur put it perfectly when he described the turnaround — one that saw Green Bay shut out the Saints in the second half while also scoring 18 points in the final period — as something “like a nightmare that went to a dream.” Indeed it was.
Matt LaFleur Explains Aggressive Decision
LaFleur conceded shortly after the win that for the most part, the fourth quarter was still “a blur” for him. He will be reviewing the tape in the coming days, which should further emphasize the gargantuan effort his team poured in in the second half of action.
LaFleur played an undeniably significant role in the win as well. After scoring their first touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter, the Packers shot-caller decided to go for two extra points. They executed it perfectly to cut the deficit down to 17-11. It was a gusty call, no doubt, and LaFleur credits his team for the motivation behind his aggressive decision:
“I felt the energy on the sidelines,” LaFleur said. “Those guys, there’s a belief.”
The Packers were able to score another touchdown and convert the extra point late in the game to secure a stunning 18-17 victory.
Green Bay will now have momentum on their side when they face off against NFC North rivals, the Detroit Lions, on Thursday night.
