The Green Bay Packers have one of the most interesting quarterback situations in the NFL. Last season was the first one that QB Jordan Love got a real chance to be the starting quarterback for the team. Love took advantage of this opportunity and even led the Packers to a historic wild card win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Now, Jordan Love wants to get paid like an elite quarterback. The latest update revealed that this is closer to becoming a reality.
Green Bay Packers “Making Progress” on Jordan Love’s Contract Extension Negotiations

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Packers and Love are reportedly closer to an agreement on a contract extension. She mentions that fans around the league are anxiously waiting for more details about this. Russini mentioned while it is not done yet, both sides are “making progress.”
Does Jordan Love Deserve an Immediate Contract Extension?

Something to keep in mind is that Love has only been the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers for one season. As a result, it is absolutely fair to question if Love deserves a contract extension right away.
Love is supposed to receive about $13.5 million this season. Then, he would be an unrestricted free agent in 2025, where the Packers would have the option to place the franchise tag on him in this scenario.
You can argue that Green Bay would be getting Love’s services at a significant discount considering the production he had last season. However, on the other side of the coin, he may need one more year to prove he is the real deal.
Quarterback Market Benefiting Jordan Love?
![REPORT: Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love "Making Progress" on Contract Extension 3 Jacksonville Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence](https://gridironheroics.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/USATSI_22172168_168400517_lowres-scaled-e1703685407260.jpg)
One reason why Love may get a deal immediately is because the current state of the quarterback market favors him. This is emphasized by Trevor Lawrence recently becoming one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL, receiving $55 million annually for the next five years. On top of this, quarterbacks like Daniel Jones are getting paid $40 million annually.
One thing to keep in mind with Lawrence is that he is the only first round quarterback from the 2021 NFL Draft who is still playing for the same team that drafted him. Other quarterbacks from that draft such as Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Mac Jones, and Justin Fields do not even have starting jobs, let alone demanding the kind of money Lawrence is receiving. As a result, legitimate starting quarterbacks may be at a premium.
