The Green Bay Packers are in the market for a defensive coordinator. This comes after it was announced that Joe Barry would not return as the Packers’ defensive coordinator for the 2024 season. Now, you will not believe who the Packers may replace Barry with.
Green Bay Packers Interviewing Brandon Staley
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Green Bay Packers plan on interviewing Brandon Staley for their defensive coordinator position. This comes after Staley was fired as the Los Angeles Chargers head coach immediately after a humiliating loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Believe it or not, Green Bay has competition for Staley’s services too. The Miami Dolphins also plan on interviewing him.
Brandon Staley’s Argument?
Is Brandon Staley the right man to take on this role? Many question his coaching abilities after his stint with the Los Angeles Chargers. Just focusing on the defensive side of the ball, the argument does not get much better.
The Green Bay Packers ranked 9th in passing yards allowed per game (206.8). The Los Angeles Chargers ranked 30th (249.8) in this category. Admittedly, the Chargers’ rush defense was slightly better than the Packers’ under Staley. They allowed 15 fewer rushing yards per game. However, the Chargers allowed nearly three more points per game than the Packers.
