The Green Bay Packers’ 9th-ranked passing defense will face the San Francisco 49ers’ 4th-ranked passing offense in the Divisional Round.
It’s unclear whether Green Bay’s elite defensive back will play tomorrow night.
The Green Bay Packers’ elite cornerback is questionable.
Jaire Alexander is officially questionable for the Divisional Round.
Jaire stepped on a teammate’s foot and rolled his ankle in last week’s practice. Jaire did not practice last Thursday and Friday but managed to play against Dallas. However, he re-injured his ankle in the third quarter and missed the remainder of the game.
Jaire did not practice this week, but Matt LaFleur is hopeful that he will play:
“Just where he’s at right now. Hopefully, he’ll be ready to go.”
Jaire has been limited to 8 games due to multiple injuries and a suspension.
Jaire has been limited to 8 games this season. He suffered a back injury in practice when he collided with Alex McGough before Week 3 and missed three out of their next four games.
Jaire returned in Week 8. He suffered a shoulder injury in Week 9, causing him to miss the next six games.
Jaire returned to action in Week 16 but was suspended for Week 17’s game because of the coin toss mishap in the previous game.
Jaire had 27 tackles and five pass deflections and allowed 22 receptions on 33 targets for 282 yards, two touchdowns, and a 113.4 passer rating allowed in coverage during the regular season.
Jaire had seven tackles, one interception, and one pass deflection in the Wild Card.
If Jaire can’t play, who will be his replacement?
If Jaire can’t play, Corey Ballentine will be his replacement. Ballentine filled in for him when he was out with a shoulder injury. He had 43 tackles, one interception, seven pass deflections, and allowed 27 completions on 48 targets for 312 yards, two touchdowns, and an 81.2 passer rating allowed in coverage.
If Jaire can’t play, who will be under the most pressure to succeed?
Carrington Valentine will be under the most pressure to succeed if Jaire can’t play. Green Bay drafted Valentine in the 7th round, 232nd overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Valentine has been the starter since they traded Rasul Douglas to Buffalo.
Valentine has appeared in 17 games and started in 12. He has 44 tackles and nine pass deflections and allowed 34 receptions on 59 targets for 411 yards, one touchdown, and an 84.8 passer rating allowed in coverage.
Their pass defense will have their hands full.
The Green Bay Packers pass defense will be tested against the San Francisco 49ers’ elite passing offense. San Francisco has one of the best weapons in the league, led by Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey.
Will Jaire Alexander be ready to go, and will Green Bay stop this dangerous passing attack?
