The Green Bay Packers have been known for being able to get value out of their late-round draft picks. Seventh-round pick Carrington Valentine looks to be another gem. He has had an excellent camp and it has caused the team to completely change their plans in the secondary. The Packers are moving heaven and earth in order to get Valentine on the field.
Green Bay Packers Carrington Valentine Impressing Early
Going into camp, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, and Keisean Nixon were the top three corners. Eric Stokes also had a spot penciled in when he returned from injury. That was before Valentine started turning heads. In the preseason opener versus the Bengals, Valentine broke up two passes and recorded an interception. He has consistently been getting first-team reps in practice. The team is looking to move Douglas to safety to get Valentine on the field more. This is an unexpected surprise for the team.
Bounce Back Year From The Defense?
The Packers’ defense struggled last year. It seemed everyone had a down year. De’Vondre Campbell didn’t live up to his All-Pro status. Stokes was injured and Douglas took a step back as well. The pass rush lost its edge when Rashan Gary went down with an injury. Green Bay is hoping that this year can be different. The best way to help out new quarterback Jordan Love is to take pressure off of him. If the defense can keep them in games, the pressure won’t be on Love to score on every single drive.
The Green Bay Packers are hoping that Carrington Valentine can be the steal of the draft. Anytime that a seventh-round pick can make an impact it is a huge win.
