In 2024, the Georgia football program will aim to win its third College Football Playoff title in four seasons. Georgia will bring back star quarterback Carson Beck from last year’s 13-1 team and will also welcome the top recruiting class, according to 247Sports. However, on Sunday, Georgia experienced a setback on the recruiting trail for the 2025 class as a four-star recruit decommitted from the program.
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, defensive lineman Christian Garrett will renounce his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs. Garrett was one of a handful of four-star recruits who had announced their commitment to Georgia in the class of 2025, making them a consensus top-ten group.
Defensive Lineman Christian Garrett: Decommits from Georgia Football
On Saturday, the future outlook of the Georgia football program took a hit with the decommitment of defensive lineman Christian Garrett. A four-star recruit and a consensus top 20 defensive lineman prospect, Garrett committed to the Georgia Bulldogs in early June, days following his official visit to Athens. Georgia. Garrett will reopen his recruiting while holding offers from Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and UCF, among others.

During his sophomore season, Garrett tallied 56 tackles, seven quarterback hurries, and three sacks. The six-foot-four, 280-pound pass rusher was pivotal for a Prince Avenue Christian School team that won a Georgia A D1 state title that season. In 2023, Garrett posted a ludicrous 86 tackles, nine TFLs, five sacks, and a pick. Prince Avenue Christian School posted a 13-1 record. Per On3 Sports, Georgia Tech holds the best odds to land Garrett, with Georgia trailing slightly behind.
Georgia Football: Updated Class of 2025
The loss of four-star recruit Christian Garrett bumps the 2025 recruiting class for Georgia football to fourth in the FBS. The 2025 class still houses five-star mega prospects, Isaiah Gibson and Zayden Walker. Alongside Gibson, Georgia has commitments from four-star edge rusher Darren Ikinnagbon and three-star defensive linemen JJ Hanne and Stephon Shivers.
Although Georgia has yet to have a top-three recruiting class for 2025, they possess the best recruiting core in 2024, per 247Sports. Led by an FBS high five five-star recruits, Georgia will welcome a new wave of elite talent to their roster next season. The 2024 class is highlighted by cornerback Ellis Robinson IV, arguably the best recruit in the country.
