This offseason, the Georgia football program has made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Multiple reckless driving or DUI arrests have plagued the Bulldogs across the past few months. Still, wide receiver Rara Thomas is the latest Georgia player to find himself in hot water after an arrest resulting in a felony charge of cruelty to children and two misdemeanor charges of battery.
Thomas was also arrested in 2023 with a felony charge of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor charge of family violence. According to Reggie Chatman Jr. of 11Alive News, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart met with Thomas on Thursday, ultimately dismissing him from the program.
Georgia Football WR Rara Thomas: No Longer With Team

On Thursday, the Georgia Bulldogs parted ways with troubled wide receiver Rara Thomas on the heels of his second arrest in as many years. Thomas is one of many Georgia football players to have a run-in with the law in recent memory, most lately facing a felony charge of cruelty to children and two misdemeanor charges of battery. He sidestepped a felony charge of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor charge of family violence in 2023 after reaching a plea deal with the prosecution.

“On Rara (Thomas), I had a chance to sit down and meet with him face-to-face on Tuesday, which I think is really important. I let him know he will no longer be part of the football team. He understands that, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”
Thomas started his college career with the Mississippi State Bulldogs, recording 62 catches, 878 yards, and 12 touchdowns in two seasons before darting for the transfer portal. Thomas landed with the Georgia football program for the 2023 season, snagging 23 receptions for 383 yards and a score. His lone touchdown came in a midseason win against the Kentucky Wildcats. Before his release, Thomas was projected as an integral part of the Georgia offense.
Georgia Football: WR Depth Chart

Rara Thomas’ departure undoubtedly hurts the wide receiver depth of the Georgia football program. The trio of Dominic Lovett, Arian Smith, and Dillion Bell project to start at receiver next season. Lovett trailed only superstar tight end and current Las Vegas Raiders rookie Brock Bowers in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns last season. Meanwhile, Bell and Smith combined for six touchdowns.
London Humphreys, Colbie Young, and Anthony Evans III will also be in the mix for substantial playing time at wideout. Humphreys heads to Athens, Georgia, via the transfer portal, tallying 22 receptions for 439 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman with the Vanderbilt Commodores in 2023. Another transfer, Young has accumulated 79 catches for 930 yards and ten touchdowns with the Miami Hurricanes from 2022 to 2023. Evans will enter his second season with Georgia football next fall as a former fringe five-star prospect.
