Georgia Bulldogs Escape Late Surge Behind Carson Beck’s Career Game
The Georgia Bulldogs’ Carson Beck posts big numbers while surviving an unexpected slugfest against Mississippi State in Sanford Stadium this past Saturday. The Georgia Bulldogs were favored by 33.5 points going into Saturday’s game but the tale of the tape may suggest otherwise. Georgia never seemed to be on beat giving up uncharacteristic big plays and turning the ball over. Mississippi State’s opportunistic defense made Georgia’s offense pay by causing two interceptions. True Freshman Michael Van Buren brought Mississippi State’s offense to the party by tossing in three touchdowns. All of Mississippi State’s efforts proved futile against the resolve of Georgia and their quarterback Carson Beck weathering a late game surge to finish off a 41-31 SEC battle.
Georgia’s Offbeat Offense Puts Up Career Day
Georgia’s offense put up big numbers despite looking a bit disjointed. Quarterback Carson Beck had a career day throwing for 459 yards and three touchdowns to go with two interceptions. The deflection leading to Beck’s first interception may have provided room for grace but his second interception in the endzone of what seemed to be the runaway score had coaches and fans in an uproar.
The Bulldogs usually reliable ground game started out slow but was able to grind out 150 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Anthony Evans III led the way in rushing yards with a lone 52-yard scamper but Trevor Etienne proved to be the most steady, getting the bulk of the carries and putting the exclamation point on the Bulldogs last scoring drive.
True Freshman Leads Comeback Attempt
When true Freshman Michael Van Buren got the call up from Mississippi State Bulldogs’ head coach Jeff Lebby many people did not foresee him staring in the face of a top ranked Georgia defense and leading a comeback surge. As if right on cue, Van Buren delivered 3 big touchdowns to give Mississippi State all it needed to give Georgia a solid test. With the help of a physical defense causing turnovers and miscues, Mississippi State gave themselves the best chance they could in a rugged SEC bout.
The Bulldogs efforts were finally outmatched after Georgia put together a grueling seven minute touchdown drive to put them in the driver’s seat. The Bulldogs would respond with a late touchdown of their own but the lead was out of reach.

Georgia Heads To Austin
The Georgia Bulldogs move to 5-1 on the season and into a different but no less highly touted SEC showdown with the number one ranked Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns boast one of the top offenses in the nation to go along with an SEC leading defense. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers put together a solid outing in his first game, posting 199 yards and a touchdown to go along with an interception. With a stout defense and an emerging quarterback, the Georgia Bulldogs will certainly have their hands full when they arrive in Austin.
