The Alabama Crimson Tide once had a 28-0 lead against the Georgia Bulldogs in the first half. Carson Beck was playing horrendously and many fans were questioning his NFL Draft stock.
The Bulldogs almost made a stunning comeback against the Crimson Tide. He threw a 67-yard touchdown pass to Dillon Bell in the fourth quarter to give Georgia a 34-33 lead, until Ryan Williams had a 75-yard touchdown reception to give Alabama the lead for good.

Beck made his stat line more respectable in the second half, but he only completed 54.0% of his passes for 439 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. Beck was much better in the second half than the first half, but many fans seemed to be concerned about his draft stock during the game. I’m always baffled by the Carson Beck first round projections, even though there’s a good chance it happens, but the bar for QBs has never been lower. They’re soon going to be evaluated like RBs and barely be drafted in the first round, especially pro style guys.

There will be time this season for Beck to redeem himself as the potential top quarterback taken in the 2025 NFL. Beck will have to face other tough competition in the conference this season against the Ole Miss Rebels, the Texas Longhorns, and the Tennessee Volunteers.
Was Potential Number 1 Pick Before the 2024 College Football Season Began
In many mock drafts before the 2024 college football season, Beck was projected to go as the number one quarterback taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. After this performance, it will be interesting to see where mock drafts have him going this week. Shedeur Sanders of Colorado, Quinn Ewers of Texas, and Cam Ward of Miami could all be ahead of Beck this week.
It was a good thing that Beck was able to make his stats more respectable in the second half. However, it doesn’t excuse what he did in the first half and also the interception he threw in the end zone when the game was on the line.
