The New Orleans Saints made a major commitment when they signed former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr to a massive four-year, $150 million contract in free agency during the offseason. It was a move that they thought would push them back towards the top of the NFC. Unfortunately, the move seems to be falling flat on its face so far.
Not only has Carr not been able to power the Saints back into contention, he has had trouble staying on the field. Injuries were always a problem for Carr with the Raiders, but they have been a major issue in New Orleans.
In Week 13 against the Detroit Lions, Carr ran into more issues after his former teammate, Bruce Irvin, hit him. Things just don’t seem to be willing to turn positive for the Saints’ quarterback.
Derek Carr’s Former Raiders’ Teammate Threw Major Shade At Him
Following the Lions’ Week 13 win over the Saints, Irvin did not shy away from throwing shade at his former teammate. He threw the shade in a post-game comment about putting pressure on Carr.
“I played with him in Oakland, so I know when you get around him, he gets rattled. He’s a hell of a player, but we knew if we got around him, we could rattle him a little bit.”
Irvin provided us with a great back-handed compliment of his former teammate. To say that he knew that Carr gets rattled under pressure, but then to back it up with a compliment was a perfect way to do it.
Ever since his time with the Raiders, Carr has never seemed to be able to put everything together. There is no denying the fact that he has superstar potential. At one point with Las Vegas, he looked like he was on track to win an NFL MVP award before going down with an injury late in the season.
Hopefully, Carr will be able to get things turned around with the Saints. He’s a good person off the field and a great teammate on the field. But, at least for now, he can’t stop catching stray bullets, even from former teammates with the Raiders.
Next up for Carr and the Saints will be a Week 14 matchup against the Carolina Panthers at home. Make sure to tune in at 1:00 p.m. EST on FOX.
