Former Alabama Stars Make NFL Top 100 (51-100)
As one of the premier college football teams in the nation, the University of Alabama has put out a plethora of talent in recent years. Since 2009, 41 players from the university have been selected in the first round alone. Alabama also features the most players currently on NFL rosters. Recently, the first half of the NFL’s Top 100 list was released. The list is especially heralded because it’s voted on by the players. There were three former Alabama highlighted amongst the league’s best. Here are those that were esteemed from their peers.
- #63 Jaylen Waddle WR (Miami Dolphins): Miami Dolphins Rookie WR Jaylen Waddle had an incredible start to his career in 2021. Waddle is lauded for his speed, route running, and production after the catch. Considering he missed a game due to injury, the record is even more impressive. The former Crimson Tide standout set the NFL’s rookie reception record. Remarkably, he tallied 104 catches, 1015 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown. Waddle only projects to have a bigger 2022.
- #85 Mac Jones QB (New England Patriots): New England Patriot Rookie QB Mac Jones was thrown into the fire. Taking over for a historic franchise and winning the starting job as a rookie is admirable. That feat is more impressive when you consider his head coach and the former MVP he won the job from. Jones threw for 3800 yards, 22 touchdowns, 67% completion percentage and made the Pro Bowl as an alternate. Additionally, Jones also led the Patriots to a playoff berth. Jones will certainly look to improve on turnovers, but he is unquestionable on of the best young QB’s in the NFL.
- #88 Jonathan Allen DT (Washington Commanders): 5th year standout Jonathan Allen had a banner year in 2021. Undoubtedly, he was already the anchor for the Commander defense. However, in 2021, he became a league wide star. Earning his first Pro Bowl berth and registering a career high in sacks, Allen took his game to a new level. Allen amaased 62 tackles and nine sacks from his defensive tackle position. Going forward, Allen tracks to solidify himself as on of the NFL’s best.
