Florida QB named to the Maxwell watch list this season for the Gators. Anthony Richardson will enter his first season as full-time starter under first year HC Billy Napier. The award has given to two Florida QB’s since 1937 (Tebow & Wuerffel).

The Gators will look to be better than the disappointing display they put out on the field last season. 6-7 is unheard for what use to be a dominate SEC East team. Last season did not help the Gators with the juggling of Richardson and Emory Jones (transferred to ASU). Now that Richardson has been nodded to command the Gators on the field, it is time to see what Richardson is made of.
Since Leak & Tebow
Since the Era of Chris Leak and Tim Tebow has passed, Florida have seen 14 QB’s under center. In the program, there have been highs and lows with Will Muschamp, Jim McElwain, and Dan Mullen. Under the SEC, if you are not representing the CFP like Bama or Georgia then you are finding ways to get better.
Anthony Richardson has received high praise to be one of the top-3 QB’s during SEC Media Day. The big stature QB has been on notice for his ability to run under the helm. Technically, Richardson is the leading returner in passing and rushing. Richardson will be heavily relied on to be better than last year’s 6-7 team.
Preview For Richardson & Gators
With new HC Billy Napier at the top of the mountain, let us see if his success at Louisiana Lafayette will follow. Napier understands that the SEC is a different animal than what any Raging Cajuns team has faced. The start of the season is no walk in the park. Facing two tough gritted programs like Utah and Kentucky will test both Richardson and Napier. Luckily, those two games are in the Swamp.
I have the Gators best 6-1, worst 4-3 when they play Georgia in Jacksonville. Richardson right now is flipped between 3rd or 4th best QB in the East. If Richardson can lead the Gators to 6-1 before Georgia, I will have Richardson in a different ranking.
Florida has the opportunities to become a great threat to Georgia in the SEC West. Depends how the Florida QB package throwing and running affects opponents defensive play calling. Florida is leading in the right direction, just do not go 0-2 to start the season. Chomp Chomp Gators!
