Anyone who says that DK Metcalf is not a worthwhile WR this year might want to rethink how great this guy can be. This absolute beast of a WR was being drafted as a potential top 5 WR last year in 2021. What happened? Metcalf has now dropped to being drafted in the middle of 4th Round on average in PPR formats.

Significant QB change in Seattle
We can all agree that Russell Wilson’s departure from Seattle hurts Metcalf from a QB standpoint. There’s good reason to believe that Metcalf will have a bad season with either Geno Smith or Drew Lock calling the shots. How bad can it be? Let’s take a look at when Smith was under center for 3 consecutive weeks last season.
Weeks 6-8 (Metcalf’s Fantasy Points 2021) without Wilson and Geno Smith under center (Full PPR)
At Pittsburgh Steelers- Week 6 Stat Line: 7 Targets, 6 Receptions, 58 Yards, 1 FUM- 10.8 Points
Vs New Orleans Saints – Week 7 Stat Line: 5 Targets, 2 Receptions, 96 Yards, 1 TD- 17.6 Points
Vs Jacksonville Jaguars- Week 8 Stat Line: 6 Targets, 6 Receptions, 43 Yards, 2 TD’s- 22.3 Points
In Depth Analysis
Don’t get me wrong, this 3-week sample size is small compared to a 17-game season, but it proves that Geno can get it done fantasy wise for Metcalf. DK will be the clear cut #1 WR and the best playmaker alongside reliable teammate Tyler Lockett. I expect Seattle to be playing from behind against all the other notorious teams in the NFC West which will force them to throw the ball a ton when in negative game scripts.
All in all, the QB in Seattle will not be as dependable as Russell Wilson was. But, with that said I firmly believe that either Smith or Lock will provide enough to support Metcalf’s campaign and put him back into top tier status at the WR position this season

With lock or Geno as QB, I like DK in the 4th round. If I can’t get him then, I won’t trip. I won’t reach for him in the 3rd, but 4th is pretty accurate!
Great analysis!
