The Philadelphia Eagles ended their season on a disastrous note last Monday, getting embarrassed 32-9 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Philadelphia limped into the playoffs, losing five of their previous six regular season games, failing to score 20 points thrice. However, teams are still looking at offensive coordinator Brian Johnson for their head coaching vacancy. Per NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Atlanta Falcons interviewed Johnson for their frontman position.

The Falcons finished the season scoring 13.9 points per game, the 26th-best average in the NFL. They fired bench boss Arthur Smith after the season. They were slightly better on defense, allowing 21.9 per game. Second-year quarterback Desmond Ridder struggled, tossing 12 touchdowns to 12 picks.
Philadelphia Eagles OC Brian Johnson: Tough Season with Birds
Brian Johson joined the Eagles in 2021 as the quarterbacks coach before taking on the offensive playcalling duties in 2023. Philadelphia scored 25.5 points per game under Johnson, a three-point decrease from the year prior with Shane Steichen. Quarterback Jalen Hurts massively declined in production, posting more than double his interception total from the year prior. He finished the year with 3,858 yards and 23 touchdowns against 15 picks. He also averaged a career-low 3.9 yards per rush attempt. Additionally, the Eagles averaged 4.3 yards per rush attempt, a slight decrease from the year prior.
Johnson started his coaching career at his alma mater, Utah, as the quarterbacks coach from 2010 to 2011. The Utes moved him to offensive coordinator in 2021. He also called plays for the Houston Cougars and Florida Gators before heading to the NFL ranks in 2021.
Philadelphia Eagles: Coaching Staff Questions Entering Offseason
Philadelphia’s finish to the season has raised eyebrows around the league, putting into question the stability of head coach Nick Sirianni’s job. However, Eagles players, including defensive lineman Fletcher Cox, have backed Sirianni. The New York native is 34-17 as the team’s head coach, including back-to-back double-digit win seasons. The Eagles made the Super Bowl in 2022, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs.
