ESPN NFL analyst Louis Riddick roasted the New York Giants for how they treated Daniel Jones throughout his stay after Rich Eisen commented that the team is “absolutely done” with their starting quarterback.
Riddick, who played 10 years in the NFL as a safety, said that while he is not a fan of Daniel Jones, he believes that the New York Giants failed their former first-round pick.
“Isn’t that amazing, how stuff can turn on its head? And you wonder why the Giants haven’t been able to make some headway in the (NFC) East and be true contenders? Because when you have this kind of thing that is happening within one calendar year, there’s no way you can make headway. There’s just no way,” said Riddick on Get Up.
“I just think it’s unfortunate. Look, I’ve never been a big, big supporter of Daniel Jones. I’ve always had my issues. But when you have this kind of flip-flopping and (these) kind of 180 turns away from people and these kind of structural deficiencies, no wonder you can’t make up any ground. No wonder,” he added.
Daniel Jones is coming off an injury-riddled 2023 campaign for the New York Giants
After a career year in 2022, the New York Giants gave Daniel Jones a four-year, $160 million extension, but he only managed to play six games in 2023 because he tore his ACL in November in Week 9. With Jones on the sidelines, the New York Giants finished with a 6-11 record.
New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen may have reiterated his faith in Jones. But with the No. 6 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, there’s a chance that the team might find his replacement, especially if he doesn’t progress well with his rehab, with QB candidates like JJ McCarthy, Bo Nix, and Michael Penix Jr. available for selection by then.
Either way, the New York Giants’ issues go far deeper than Daniel Jones alone, as they’ve had a revolving door of personnel over the past few years. Co-owner John Mara touched upon this during a 2022 press conference when he said that “they’ve done everything possible to screw” Jones up.
