Way too early a prediction for BYU Football Quarterback Depth Chart for 2023. BYU’s move to the Big 12 is coming with big shake-ups at big positions. When Jaren Hall declared for the NFL draft that left a huge question of who should start at Quarterback. Then Kedon Slovis transferred in from Pittsburgh but I don’t think he will start for the Cougars come fall.
When it’s all is said and done with spring and fall practices. This will be a hard decision for the coaching staff to make but it needs to be done. I think that Maiava will come out on top and lead the Cougars during the first season of being a Big 12 opponent. BYU will need a mobile quarterback and one who will be able to make the big plays in the final seconds to give them the win.
Sol-Jay Maiava-Peters
Cougar fans have only seen Peters play in one game as a Cougar but that one game showed why he could be a starter for years to come. He moved the ball well downtown the field with backup receivers and backs and with the help of some amazing linemen. There are still places for improvement but I think he will sharpen those up in the spring and then into the fall part of this offseason.
Kedon Slovis
Slovis has had some great years of football and some for a Power 5 program but he isn’t the nowadays typical BYU quarterback. The Cougars like a more mobile quarterback who can and will leave the pocket to pick up yardage. He was seen doing this a little bit at USC but not much at Pittsburgh. Slovis has the arm and sometimes has the decision-making but is not great enough to win in the Big 12.

Cade Fennegan
Fennegan will be number 3 or 4 in the BYU football quarterback depth chart. He played some great football at Boise State and against the Cougars but with Slovis coming in he will have to wait another year unless BYU needs to use their third-stringer this season.
Nick Billoups
Nick Billoups hasn’t played a down of college football and he will sit at either 3 or 4 depending on the fight he puts up against Fennegan. He will need to show the coaching staff what he can do this spring to prove his worth on the field.

Bahaha you will never see Sol-Jay play QB again unless it’s a wild cat formation. The kid can’t through the ball at all, he throws everything side arm not accurate at all. They didn’t let throw the ball at all in the 2nd half. 1 attempt, 1 interception.
