Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles have cemented themselves as one of the top teams in the NFL through the first 12 weeks of the 2023 NFL season. Once again, they are receiving a ton of Super Bowl hype, especially after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills in back-to-back weeks. Coming up in Week 13, Hurts will face another major test against the San Francisco 49ers.
While he has been receiving some MVP hype, others have been very vocal that he should not be viewed as a candidate. His numbers are good, but they’re not great. That being said, one NFL analyst took things a step further and took some major shots at Hurts.
NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho, also a former NFL player, revealed a strange take on Hurts despite the Eagles’ 10-1 record and Hurts consistently playing good football.
“Jalen Hurts still doesn’t look the part… I’m watching the game both as an analyst but I’m also watching as a former football player and I’m like Jalen Hurts doesn’t look that good, he just doesn’t. You look at Josh Allen and you’re like ‘oh my god.’”
Can Jalen Hurts Shut The Critics Up And Win MVP?
Let’s take a closer look at the resume that Hurts has put up so far to be a potential MVP candidate.
Through the first 12 weeks of the season, Hurts has most importantly led the Eagles to a 10-1 record. They are the best team in a stacked NFC and have beat good teams that are also Super Bowl contenders. Hurts has been a massive part of the reason for those big wins.
Granted, he has not put up massive numbers. He has completed 67.6 percent of his pass attempts for 2,697 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. In addition to his passing totals, he has racked up 410 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.
Those numbers, including the rushing totals, certainly put Jalen Hurts in the MVP conversation. His passing numbers alone wouldn’t have him there, but the rushing numbers force him into the conversation.
Can he win the MVP? Absolutely. If he can continue on the pace he has had thus far, cut down on the turnovers a bit, and boost his passing touchdown numbers, he’ll likely have a very good chance to win the prestigious award.
To come out and say that Hurts “doesn’t look the part” is a completely hideous take. From a former NFL player, it’s flat-out embarrassing.
Next up for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles will be a huge Week 13 matchup at home against the San Francisco 49ers. Make sure to tune in to at 4:25 p.m. EST on FOX.
