The Ohio State Buckeyes have a lot of talent returning to its roster next season. With a lot of talent leaving for the NFL, there still have two of the top 10 players in the sport.

On3.com ranked Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith number one in its top 100 rankings for the 2025 season. As for safety Caleb Downs, he was ranked number three. This is not a surprise by any means. Downs is projected to be one of the top players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.
College Football Fans React To Ohio State Buckeyes Safety Caleb Downs Being Ranked Top 5 In Top 100

It seemed not surprising that two Buckeyes players were going to be ranked in the top 5 in the top 100 for the upcoming 2025 college football season. Downs is probably going to be the best safety in college football next season. However, some college football fans did not like that Downs was ranked so high on the list, considering the fact he plays safety. They said on Twitter:
Downs might be too high. Far and away the best safety. I just feel like that’s not an impact position to the degree of QB, edge, and WR.

He is 6’0″ and weighs 205 lbs. During the 2024 season with Ohio State, he recorded 81 tackles, 0.5 sacks, two interceptions, and six pass deflections. Downs will be one of the top players in the sport during the 2025 college football season. It will be interesting to see what he will do during his junior season and even though he is not a quarterback or wide receiver, Downs is a very athletic football player.
