The Detroit Lions knew they had to address the cornerback position after allowing the 6th most passing yards in the league in 2023.
So far, they traded for Carlton Davis, re-signed Emmanuel Moseley, and signed one from the AFC West.
The Detroit Lions signed a cornerback from the AFC West.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Detroit signed Amik Robertson to a two-year, $9.25 million contract worth up to $10.75 million in incentives.
Amik Robertson spent the first four seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Las Vegas drafted Robertson in the 4th round, 139th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. Robertson appeared in 52 games and started 21 with 111 tackles, four interceptions, 15 pass deflections, and two forced fumbles in his tenure with the team.
Notice how extended playing time can assist with player development.
Robertson appeared in eight games in 2020 with four tackles and allowed four receptions on six targets for 76 yards, one touchdown, and a 149.3 passer rating. He missed eight games because he was a healthy scratch.
Robertson appeared in 10 games and started two in 2021 with 19 tackles and allowed 13 receptions on 18 targets for 145 yards, three touchdowns, and a 135.4 passer rating. He missed seven games because he was a healthy scratch.
Robertson saw extended playing after Las Vegas hired Patrick Graham as their new defensive coordinator ahead of the 2022 season. Robertson appeared in 17 games and started seven with 38 tackles, two interceptions, nine pass deflections, and one forced fumble, and allowed 39 receptions on 64 targets for 545 yards, four touchdowns, and a 96.2 passer rating.
Robertson appeared in 17 games and started 12 in 2023 with 50 tackles, two interceptions, six pass deflections, and one forced fumble, and allowed 39 receptions on 66 targets for 531 yards, three touchdowns, and an 87.4 passer rating.
What will the starting cornerback position look like next season?
With the re-signing of Moseley, the signing of Robertson, and the trade for Davis, Detroit will have stiff competition as five players will compete for the three starting spots.
The five players that will compete for the starting three spots include Carlton Davis, Cameron Sutton, Emmanuel Moseley, Amik Robertson, and Brian Branch (it’s unclear what Detroit will do with him, as he can play either nickel or safety).
Will Robertson be one of the starters next season?
