The Detroit Lions sign a Pro Bowl starter
The Detroit Lions have made some major signings in free agency this week. The team has addressed the secondary, most recently signing safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson on Sunday. They seem to be plotting enough upgrades to make them favorites to win the NFC North in 2023. They added to their recent free agency haul a two-time Pro Bowl athlete.
According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the Lions signed long snapper Jake McQuaide to a one-year contract worth $1.317 million for 2023. He earned a $152,500 signing bonus, and $1.165 will be McQuaide’s base salary for next season.

McQuaide was initially signed by the St. Louis Rams in 2011, where he stayed through the 2020 season. He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys from 2021-22. McQuaide has earned two Pro Bowl nominations for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. McQuaide earned a 53.0 grade from Pro Football Focus for his performance in 2022. His highest-graded year was 2018.
