The Detroit Lions signed a safety
The Detroit Lions have had an excellent start to their free agency. The Lions added pieces to their secondary last week, adding cornerbacks Emmanuel Moseley and Cameron Sutton. The Lions, who are watching their competition in the NFC North rebuild this offseason, could be the favorites to win the division next season. Their latest safety signing will help that cause.
According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Lions are set to sign former Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. The deal is for one year and is worth $8 million, $6.5 million is fully guaranteed.

Gardner-Johnson is a former fourth-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2019. He made 56 solo tackles, 17 stops, and six interceptions for the NFC Champions in 2022.
With Gardner-Johnson, the Lions’ secondary will be pretty much rebuilt next season. That part of the defense was the weakest unit on the team that was one game away from making the playoffs.
