The Detroit Lions had one of the best running backs in NFL history in Barry Sanders. However, they were not able to do much as a team and many blame quarterback Scott Mitchell. After watching the new documentary ‘Bye Bye Barry’, Mitchell went on a tirade, ripping fans for blaming him for the team’s woes.

Detroit Lions Scott Mitchell On The Barry Sanders Documentary
Mitchell took to Facebook to give his thoughts after seeing the documentary. While he praised Sanders he followed it up with a tirade against the fans (and a couple of celebrities) who blame him for the fact that the Lions never had playoff success.
“I am so tired of hearing how I was the reason that Barry Sanders never won a Super Bowl, I’m so tired of hearing how I was not a good QB. My only response is F–K YOU ALL!!!!! That includes Eminem (and) Jeff Daniels.”
Mitchell is fed up and wanted fans to know it. When we look at Mitchell’s stats, it is easy to see why fans view Mitchell as the problem.
Mitchell’s Stats Leave Something To Be Desired
1995 was Mitchell’s best year. He threw for over 4,000 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. In the other years, Mitchell was very middle of the road. In 1996 he had 17 touchdowns and 17 interceptions which is not the ratio that quarterbacks should strive for. He only slightly improved in 1997 with 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. While I wouldn’t say that Mitchell was a bad quarterback, he definitely hurt his team with the turnovers.
While Mitchell could have been better, I don’t think that it was solely his play that caused the Lions to not win. The Packers were one of the best teams in the NFL led by Brett Favre and Reggie White and the Lions had to play them twice. It’s hard to win in the NFL and Mitchell is tired of carrying the burden for the 90s teams.
