The Detroit Lions go into 2023 with some high expectations. 2022 ended on a high note when they knocked off their division rival the Green Bay Packers and prevented them from getting into the playoffs. They are now the favorite in the NFC North this season as they bolstered an already good roster. One of those signings was wide receiver, Marvin Jones who one coach says is expected to make the “big boy catches”.
Detroit Lions Marvin Jones In 2023
Wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El is happy to have the veteran back in the fold. In a recent interview, he talked about his expectations for Jones in 2023.
“He’s a the guy who makes the big boy catches, so to speak. He can do the dirty stuff in the trenches, you know, red zone guy for sure,” Randle El explained. “So, that’s why I see him in a lot, just making those dirty, grimy catches that will help us out. We got a couple of guys that can do it. But, he is one of the guys that for sure can show up and make those plays for us. So glad we got him, and he’s been a delight. So, it’s been great.”
Need Someone To Step Up
The Lions’ offense is going to need some help in the receiving room, especially in the first six weeks. Jameson Williams is suspended for the first six games and Amon-Ra St. Brown can only do so much. Jones might be the perfect candidate to take some pressure off of other receivers. As Randle El said, he can do the dirty work which usually rubs off on other teammates. His leadership and intangibles will be critical for the Lions this year.
The Detroit Lions have to be happy to have Marvin Jones back on the team. The NFC North is there for the taking and the team has never won the division. Will 2023 be the year?
