The Detroit Lions have a knack for being one of the unluckiest franchises in the NFL. This offseason has been uncharacteristically full of good news and big free agents have come to Detroit. They were gearing up to take the NFC North crown and possibly make some noise in the conference. Now, they will have to do it without one of their top wide receivers and some key role players. Jameson Williams has been suspended, along with four other players for gambling.

Detroit Lions Jameson Williams Suspended For Gambling
Williams has been given a six-game ban for violating the league’s policy on betting. Little is known right now about what exactly happened but the NFL is clearly cracking down on any player that gambles while on a roster. Famously, Calvin Ridley was suspended for an entire year for betting on games and it seems that Willaims avoided that for now. Others were not so lucky.
Other Players Suspended
Three other Lions were suspended on Friday. Fellow wide receiver Stanley Berryhill was suspended six games as well. Wide receiver Quintez Cephus and safety CJ Moore were suspended indefinitely and immediately released by the team. Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney was the other player to receive an indefinite suspension. This is a huge punishment from the league and one that will affect one of the most promising teams in the NFL.
The only good news for the Lions is that it is only six games for Williams. The hope is that they can hold down the fort and make up for his loss until he gets back. Stay tuned for more details on this situation.
