Detroit selected Hooker in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft. Hooker suffered a torn ACL last November at Tennessee, resulting in the quarterback beginning the season on the NFI. The Lions now have a 21-day timeframe to active Hooker on the active roster.
Hendon Hooker: 68th Overall Pick by the Lions
Hendon Hooker, a third-round pick in last year’s draft, shined with the Tennessee Volunteers during his final two college seasons. The six-foot-four signal-caller threw 58 touchdowns against five picks during that span. He also completed 69% of his passes while earning Heisman Trophy Award votes in 2022. However, Hooker tore his ACL in a mid-Novemeber game against the South Carolina Gamecocks. He threw three touchdowns before his departure.
Detroit Lions: Quarterback Depth Chart
Hendon Hooker will slot behind quarterbacks Jared Goff and Teddy Bridgewater on the Lions depth chart. Bridgewater should remain the clear backup, signing a one-year, $3 million contract with the team last August. The one-time Pro-Bowler has thrown for 75 touchdowns against 47 interceptions during his nine-year NFL career.
Meanwhile, Goff remains one of the best quarterbacks in the NFC. Goff has thrown for 3,075 yards, 18 touchdowns, and eight picks in 11 games. He earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2022, tossing 29 touchdowns to seven picks. Goff came to Detroit in 2021 after five seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. Hooker would move up the depth chart if anything happens to either Goff or Bridgewater.
