The last title someone wants in betting and sports gambling is “mush.” By its very definition, a mush tends to lose bets at an inconceivable pace. One might call Basketball Hall of Famer and 11-time All-NBA forward Charles Barkey a mush. Barkley has lost over $20 million gambling in his lifetime, but that hasn’t stopped him from still placing a sports bet.
Via The Steam Room podcast with Earnie Johnson and Charles Barkley, the former NBA great said he is “all-in” on the Detroit Lions this weekend. Lions fans aren’t taking the news about Chuck’s allegiance well, given that the former NBA star tends to lose his bets. Barkley said he had already thrown down money on Detroit with the points. They are a touchdown underdog on the road against the San Francisco 49ers.
Detroit Lions Fans React to Charles Barkley Betting on Their Team
Lions fans are not pleased with Barkley after he admitted to placing a bet on Detroit. Barkley, a former NBA standout with the Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns, and Houston Rockets, has become notorious for his struggles with gambling. Lions fans took to Twitter (also known as X) to voice their disbelief.

Charles Barkley: Speaks NFC Championship
On The Steam Room with Ernie Johnson, Barkley spoke about the upcoming NFC Championship between the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers. He said, “I’m all-in on the Detroit Lions. I’m going to put money on it.”

He continued, saying, “They hurt me in game one against Tampa Bay (presumably meant Los Angeles). They didn’t cover, but they were big last week for Chuck.”
When asked by his co-host, Ernie Johnson, Chuck said he is betting on the Lions to cover as touchdown underdogs. However, quarterback Jared Goff will need to play better outside a dome if Barkley is to cash his bet. The signal-caller threw 30 touchdowns to 12 picks this season and has tossed three scores to no interceptions this postseason. However, he has drastic splits based on the game’s venue. The three-time Pro-Bowler owns a near 100 rating indoors but an 89 rating outside.
When asked why Barkley likes the Lions, he said they cashed for him last week against Tampa Bay. He also said, “I just love the story of Dan Campbell.”
Campbell took over as the team’s head coach three seasons ago, winning just three games during his inaugural year. The Lions won nine games the following season before winning 12 in 2023. Detroit is just one win away from its first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
