The Detroit Lions finally won their first playoff game in 32 years. While Dan Campbell has been crucial in the change of culture that has taken place in Detroit, the GM Brad Holmes has been fundamental in the Lions success as well. Holmes’ story highlights that hard work and belief in oneself and in a dream can take you to the greatest places in the world.
Holmes is one of the candidates nominated to win NFL executive of the year, and rightfully so. The Lions have been excellent in the draft getting players like Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Sam LaPorta, who have all made huge contributions to the Lions being an elite team in the NFL. But Holmes story to the General Manager position starts a long time ago.
In 2003, Holmes was working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car while also trying to crack into the NFL world and land a job. He finally got his start as a PR intern for the Los Angeles Rams and then slowly climbed his way up through the NFL until landing the huge GM job for the Detroit Lions. 18 years from landing his job with the Rams he got the huge job in Detroit.
Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes Visibly Emotional After Playoff Win
Holmes was perhaps the most fired up after the Lions finally broke the 32 year streak of not winning a playoff game. Holmes made some incredible moves to get this team to where they are and his life story highlights where is heart and soul come from.
Holmes has had every emotion before finally reaching success and his perseverance in himself and his dream is something you rarely see in any industry. We often hear many stories of players who have gone through incredible adversities to get to where they are but its more rare to hear these types of stories about general managers.
He has done nothing but incredible moves for this team and is a huge part of why they are where they are. Many of the teams’ moves have also been criticized like bringing in Jared Goff and hiring Dan Campbell, but clearly these moves have been home runs. This team has a new culture and a star studded roster and that is in large part due to the incredible Brad Holmes.
This team is not only set up to be successful now but for many years in the future as well. They have a great mix of youth and veteran talent with the right head coach to get the job done. Holmes deserves the success as he has made it all happen. He let out some big emotions after the game as he is a man who has been working towards this for decades. You can’t help but feel amazing for the man and the whole team.
Has there been a better 3 year stretch of drafting than what Brad Holmes, Dan Campbell, and the @Lions have managed???
