The Detroit Lions have a chance to make history on Sunday, beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and heading to the NFC Championship for just the second time in franchise history. Leading the way is quarterback Jared Goff. The eight-year NFL veteran joined the Lions in 2021 after his former team, the Los Angeles Rams, ditched him for Matthew Stafford. The loaded Rams, equipped with Stafford, won the Super Bowl that same year, while the Lions went 3-13-1, their fourth straight losing season.
Fast forward two seasons, and Goff and the Lions beat Stafford and the Rams during Super Wild Card Weekend, giving head coach Dan Campbell his first NFL postseason win as a frontman. Campbell took the Detroit head coaching position the same season Goff joined the club. Campbell and Goff remained linked as the duo brought Detroit back to the center of the NFL. Campbell spoke to the media on Sunday about his team’s signal caller.
Jared Goff is playing his best football right now. But, the Lions actually fell in love with him through the perils of a 3-win season in 2021. Here’s why…@NFLGameDay @nflnetwork #AllGrit pic.twitter.com/sSeIlgzAXP

Detroit Lions HC Dan Campbell: Raves About QB Jared Goff’s Resiliency
Campbell spoke with NFL Network’s Stacey Dales on Sunday, with the bench boss telling her that the organization fell in love with Jared Goff three years ago, his first with the Lions. When pressed about Goff’s toughness, Campbell replied with his own question, saying, “If you’re an outsider, do you really understand how resilient he is?”
Campbell told Dales, “Goff is at his best when his back is against the wall. That’s when you find out who people are.”
The Lions started their first season with Goff and Campbell 0-10-1 but won three of their last six games.
They discovered Goff is “not only tough, resilient, and a fighter, but he is a winner.” The Detroit Lions believe Goff can lead them to victory on Sunday and ultimately take them to Super Bowl 58.
Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff: Fantastic Stint with NFC North Club
Goff appeared in all 17 games for the Lions this season, throwing for 4,576 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 picks. He played nearly perfect in the team’s win over the Rams last weekend, going 22-of-27 for 277 yards and one touchdown. The Cal product also dominated in 2022, tossing 29 scores with seven picks. His 91.5 quarterback rating with the Lions falls just short of his rating with the Los Angeles Rams, where he spent five seasons. He led the Rams to the Super Bowl in 2018, eventually losing to the New England Patriots, 13-3.
