The Detroit Lions had their season end as they lost on the road to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game after being up 17 points at one point. One of the critical situations happened in the fourth quarter when they were down 27-24 but went for it on fourth down instead of attempting a field goal on the San Francisco 30-yard line.
When asked about the situation during the post-game press conference, Dan Campbell stated how he understands the pressure people will lay at his feet but he does not have any regret making the call on 4th and three that led to a turnover on downs.
“I don’t regret making those decisions. I understand the scrutiny I will get. That’s part of the gig.”
He also went on and said he was attempting to get the upper hand back in the game and felt good about the offense converting in those situations. With the Detroit Lions’ season officially over after this game, it definitely proves they can compete with anybody on the field.
What will Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions do in 2024?
The Detroit Lions are going to see a handful of changes both to their roster and their coaching staff. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has been the leading candidate for the Washington Commanders head coaching vacancy. However, there are also going to be some significant free agents that are officially no longer under contract.
Some of those players include safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, defensive end Romeo Okwara and offensive guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai are some of the most significant Detroit Lions players that can leave the franchise. This will be an interesting free agency period as the NFC seems pretty open if the team wants to be heavy hitters in the free agency market.
