When Amon-Ra St. Brown came to the Detroit Lions as a rookie, the team went 3-13-1. Now, the team is the betting favorite in the NFC North. Head coach Dan Campbell has come in and transformed the culture surrounding the team. The roster has drastically improved on both sides of the ball. The hype is real around the team and St. Brown is loving it.
Detroit Lions Amon-Ra St. Brown Is Loving The Hype
St. Brown talked to Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated and talked about how much fun it is to be on a team with this much hype.
“My rookie year, we went 3-13-1, [Lions fans] were still there for us. And now the hype is crazy. When I go back for OTAs and whatnot, you go to the grocery store, you go to the restaurant, whatever you’re doing that day. If a fan sees you, they’re super excited.
“They have big expectations, but I feel like no matter what, they’re always going to be there for us. That’s something, as a player, I really appreciate, because there’s definitely those bandwagon fans that you see with the big teams that win a lot.”
St. Brown respects the fans who have stuck with the team through all of the bad seasons and is excited to give them a winning season and possibly a playoff appearance.
Can They Live Up To The Hype?
Hype is great but it does create expectations. Remember, the Lions started last season very slow and looked destined for another poor finish. It wasn’t until the second half of the season that they caught fire. The hope is that we see the team from the second half of the season. If the team stumbles out of the gate, pressure may mount. The good news is the team is much better than last season. GM Brad Holmes transformed the secondary in the offseason which was a huge weakness last year. If Jared Goff and the offense can continue to thrive under offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, the Lions should rack up some wins.
Look for Amon-Ra St. Brown to have another huge season with the Detroit Lions. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time and Goff loves to find him on third down. The Lions have never won the NFC North and they look to change that in 2023.
