Even before he has played his first official NFL game during the regular season, Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has made heads turn on the field. This prompted sports analyst Robert Griffin III to drop an eye-opening assessment of the rookie.
Nix made a strong impression in his NFL preseason debut, outperforming the team’s veteran signal-callers. The rookie showcased his ability to lead the offense against the Indianapolis Colts, throwing one touchdown pass and guiding the Broncos on long scoring drives.
The Broncos’ quarterback finished the game 15 of 21 for 125 yards, while also adding 17 yards on the ground. His efficient performance stood in contrast to that of veteran Jarrett Stidham, who started the game for Denver but struggled, finishing 4 of 7 with an interception.
The Broncos’ coaching staff will have a tough decision to make regarding the starting quarterback job, as Nix’s impressive debut has put him firmly in the mix. With the ability to make plays through the air and with his legs, his dual-threat capabilities could give him an edge over the more traditional pocket passers on the roster.
For the Indianapolis Colts, the preseason matchup provided a glimpse of their promising young duo of quarterback Anthony Richardson and running back Jonathan Taylor. Although limited to just two series, the pair showed flashes of their potential, with Richardson completing 2 of 4 passes and Taylor rushing for 4 yards.

Nix was selected 12th overall by the Denver Broncos in the 2024 NFL Draft, part of a record-tying first round that saw six signal-callers chosen. He signed a fully guaranteed four-year, $18.6 million contract, and immediately impressed in the preseason, outperforming the Broncos’ veteran quarterbacks to stake his claim for the starting job.
It remains to be seen how much of an impact Nix will have on Denver once the new season starts. For sure, a lot of eyes will be on the rookie quarterback, including those of Griffin.
