Denver Broncos looking at former member of Sean Payton’s staff
Sean Payton is putting a new staff together for the Denver Broncos. Payton is looking to turn around a team that had a disappointing 2022 season after heavily investing in quarterback Russell Wilson last offseason. Reports came out recently Payton was interviewing former Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan for the defensive coordinator position. Payton interviewed another candidate with ties to the new head coach.
According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Broncos interviewed New Orleans Saints co-defensive coordinator Kris Richard for the Broncos defensive coordinator job. Rapoport states Ryan is the favorite to land the job with the Broncos.

Richard has worked with Payton before. Richard was the Saints’ defensive backs coach for Payton’s final season in New Orleans for the 2021 season. The Saints retained Richard when Payton left the Saints and promoted then-defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to be their head coach starting in 2022. The Saints and Richard parted ways in February when co-defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen took the Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator job.
