The Denver Broncos have plenty of problems they need to address, one of which being the quarterback position. Many believe Sean Payton is moving on from Russell Wilson, and the 2024 draft will be one of the areas his staff is zeroing in for the 35-year-old’s replacement.
The team is looking at a plethora of talented college players, but there’s one name that stands out as a potential selection. Whether Broncos fans are going to be happy with the rumored selection is another question, however.
Denver Broncos linked to Oregon QB Bo Nix
In their search for a talented QB, the Denver Broncos suddenly found themselves linked with one of the most exciting QBs in the 2024 draft class.
Bo Nix may not steal the headlines in April, but his solid performance for Oregon will be a big boon for whichever team chooses him with their pick. Denver Sports’ Cecil Lamey had this to say about Nix, and it was a bit of a mixed bag:
I thought we were watching a young Drew Lock when Bo Nix was throwing passes in practice. He certainly has arm arrogance, but he lacks the cannon that Lock possesses. This means Nix may have bad mechanics (mostly throwing off his back foot) but doesn’t fit the ball into as many tight windows.
Bo Nix was making too many off-platform throws on Tuesday. When he connects, it looks good, but when passes are off the mark I go back to the bad mechanics.
Drew Lock had a strong start during his time with the Denver Broncos. However, Denver had to ship him off to the Seattle Seahawks when the opportunity to acquire Wilson showed itself. Fans will likely have doubts surrounding Nix especially after the Lock comparisons, but his talent for slinging the football is warranted.
Nix’s strong college career promises great things for Broncos
Nix started his collegiate career with Auburn, where he made steady improvements to his game. However, he decided to move to the PAC-12 with Oregon for the 2022 season. His performance took a huge jump after joining the Ducks, finishing the year with 3593 passing yards and 29 passing TDs while scrambling for 546 yards and 15 TDs.
His final collegiate season was even more impressive, though. He threw for 4508 passing yards and 45 TDs with only three interceptions. His scrambling stats took a slight downturn (234 yards and 6 TDs), but his season was still impressive enough that he ranked third on the 2023 Heisman race.
Should the Denver Broncos decide to go with a younger man under center, Bo Nix may be the answer they’ve been looking for.
