Technically speaking, Russell Wilson is still with the Denver Broncos, but he’s good as gone after the team announced that they are going to release the Super Bowl-winning quarterback once the NFL calendar flips to a new year. But the Broncos will continue to feel the presence of Wilson even when he’s no longer around in Mile High City and that’s because of the massive dead cap his Denver will be incurring once he’s cut.
The Denver Broncos Could Part Ways With Garett Bolles Ahead of 2024 NFL Free Agency
With such a stressful cap situation for the Broncos, the team is also rumored to be thinking about letting offensive tackle Garett Bolles go. However, it also appears that it’s likely that Bolles and the Broncos will find a middle ground in order to keep him in the team’s fold (h/t Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette).
“Broncos need to shed lots of salary by March 13 start of NFL new league year. There’s been speculation T Garett Bolles, on books to make nonguaranteed $15.75 million in 2024, could be cap casualty, but the odds are that he will be back. Broncos could look to restructure contract.”
Bolles was selected in the first round (20th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Broncos. In 2020, he inked a four-year extension deal with the Broncos worth $68 million.
In any case, the Broncos will have plenty of decision to make in the coming days and weeks, especially with the 2024 NFL Draft and NFL free agency coming right up.
